Andrew’s Farewell Service and his last letter to Parishioners

The full church on Sunday 17th November, together with the standing ovation during the service, was a wonderful testimony to the affection and esteem in which Drumglass Parish has held Andrew during his time as Rector. The evening celebrated the faithfulness with which Andrew has served this parish, and the fruitfulness which has characterised his ministry as we have witnessed healthy growth.

Speaking from Isaiah 6, in his final sermon, Andrew reminded the large congregation that, despite the changes and challenges life can bring, God is still on the throne. He encouraged us all to “look up” and seek God as we step out in faith, trusting the Lord for this next chapter in the life of Drumglass Parish.

Following the service, presentations were made to the Forster family in appreciation of their friendship and ministry. A lovely supper was served and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to share together in fellowship. At the end of the evening, a very long queue formed, as parishioners took one final opportunity, to thank Andrew and the family personally.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this very special evening and made it such a wonderful occasion.  Our very best wishes go with Andrew as he takes up his new post of Bishop of Derry and Raphoe.

Letter from Rector in November's Outlook

Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe that this is the last Rector’s letter that I will write for our parish magazine. Later this month I will leave Drumglass Parish after twelve and a half years as your Rector. In this letter I simply want to say Thank you. When we arrived in May 2007 we came with a young family feeling both nerves and anticipation of what lay ahead. As a Parish you quickly took us to your hearts and we felt very much at home as soon as we arrived.

Hannah, Patrick and Megan grew up into adulthood here and Dungannon will always be their home town. Heather and I cannot begin to tell you of the love and affection that we will always hold Drumglass in. You have been our friends and our family and we feel deeply grateful to God for the opportunity of serving amongst you.

Thank you for making us part of your family, thank you for being such supportive parishioners of your churches and thank you for being a community seeking to follow Jesus.

As our journey changes we travel in confidence that God goes before and with us and as a Parish we can always share that same confidence as we look to the future.

These few inadequate words can in no way express the gratitude that I feel for all of you. Please know that I will always carry you in my heart and prayers.

Your friend and Rector
