Christmas was “the most wonderful time of the year”, as we celebrated the birth of Jesus with Carol Services, Nativities, parties, festivities and dinners. Some of the highlights were “Carols 4 All” led by pupils from the local primary schools on Advent Sunday and “Sing Carols!” on 12th December led by pupils from the local post-primary schools. At each of these services, donations were made to The Reach Mentoring project. A new Christmas venture was “Joy to the World!” in St Elizabeth’s Church, a service of carols and readings when the stories behind the familiar carols were shared. This was followed by seasonal refreshments, when there was an opportunity to express our gratitude and say farewell to Matthew Winning, our organist in St Elizabeth’s. But, as the Christmas Bidding Prayer reminds us, it was also a time to remember “the poor, the hungry and the refugees” and so we witnessed great generosity as our parishioners provided food, gifts and toys for local families through the BCM Christmas Appeal; and knitted blankets, hats, scarves, for the Highways and Byways missions. Thank you to everyone who gave so generously – it is much appreciated.
